The History of Oberpfaffenhofen Airport

Oberpfaffenhofen Airport was built by Dornier Flugzeugwerke in 1936, which initially used it as an in-plant airport. In 1945, it was occupied by the US American Army and renamed Airfield R.81. The Federal Republic of Germany reclaimed possession of the airport in 1950; the airfield was used then by the German Armed Forces then, as well as by Dornier. In Oberpfaffenhofen, the vertical take-off jet, Dornier Do 31, among other things, was developed. 2002 saw the successor of the Dornier company, Fairchild Dornier, filing for insolvency; a result of this was that the airport was taken over by EDMO-Flugbetrieb GmbH. This meant that the special airfield was opened for private jet flights after a few disputes with the neighbouring communities. In December 2016, the property developers Triwo and Beos purchased the Oberpfaffenhofen Airport.
