History of Trondheim Airport
The military started using the land on which Trondheim (TRD) Airport is currently built in 1887. The first aircraft took off there in 1914. During the German occupation (1940-1942), the small military airfield was expanded and three new runways were constructed. After the end of the war, the airport returned to Norwegian hands and continued to be used as a military airfield.
Trondheim Airport is still used by the military today, although there are no longer any air units stationed there. The 09/27 runway was extended in 1961. It is also the only one of the original three runways, which is still in use today; this and another new runway are currently in use. In 1994, the airport received an airport rail station. Today, TRD Airport handles more than 4.4 million passengers every year and records more than 60,000 flights.

Fly by Private Jet to Trondheim Airport: Experience Norway
A charter flight to Trondheim will take you deep into the breath-taking landscape and architectural world of Central Norway. The city is at the mouth of the River Nidelva in Trondheim Fjord and has a canal harbour with houses directly on the waterfront, which is typical of Trondheim. Although the road network was largely restructured after a devastating fire in 1681 to prevent further fires, there are still narrow medieval alleyways in the city centre. The market square is paved in the form of a sundial, the pointer of which is a 17-metre high obelisk with the statue of the founder of the city and Viking king Olav Trygvason. An additional tourist attraction is the Nidaros Cathedral with its Romanesque and Gothic influences.
The Stiftsgården, the largest wooden palace in Scandinavia, allows visitors to imagine Trondheim in the 17th century. It is built in the classic style and has more than 140 rooms that correspond more to the Baroque style. The small islet of Munkholmen, on which there used to be a monastery and which has also served as a gun station and prison, sits in the fjord off the coast of the city. Today, the islet is a popular excursion destination for the city’s residents who enjoy relaxing and swimming there. If you are interested in music and musical instruments, then you should visit the national Ringve Museum. In addition, the Trondheim Chamber Music Festival is held every year in September.
