Book a Private Jet to Montpellier Airport

Montpellier is certainly one of the largest airports in France and is a very popular starting point for short breaks to the French Mediterranean coast, especially in the summer months. The airport has its own entrance hall for business and private flights, so you can arrive and depart in comfort and privacy.

History of Montpellier MPL Airport

Montpellier has had its own airport as early as the 1930s. In that first decade, however, the airport was a small airfield called Fréjorgues, which was first put into operation in 1938 and was built for military use exclusively. During the German occupation of France in the Second World War, the Luftwaffe occupied and used the airport. After the war, the airport returned to civilian use and, in 1946, a terminal for civil aviation was added. In 1964, the military officially gave the airport to the CCIM (Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Montpellier), which remains in charge.

In the following decades, international air traffic increased significantly, to the benefit of Montpellier Airport. In 1990, the annual number of passengers exceeded the million mark for the first time. In the same year, a new, larger terminal was opened, which replaced the old terminal. As a result, Montpellier is able to cope with a passenger volume of over 1.6 million per year.
