Cologne Bonn Private Jet Charter: VIP Service Around the Clock

Cologne Bonn Airport in Germany is one of the best regional airports in Europe and among the busiest nationally. It is also an important air cargo hub and is certified by NASA for space shuttle emergency landings. Passengers travelling by charter jet at Cologne Bonn Airport benefit from the ease of pre or post-flight services at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) – available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, thanks to the absence of a night flight ban.

History of Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN)

The location of the Cologne Bonn Airport was once used as a military training centre for the German armed forces before it was converted to a military airfield. Subsequently, in 1938, a proper airport was constructed. Since the infrastructure already existed on account of its military use, the airport was given over to commercial traffic following the war. Following its official founding in 1950, rapid development of CGN Airport began. An important milestone was achieved in 1961 when the first long haul flight took off following completion of a new runway capable of serving large aircraft.

The following decades saw a continuous increase in passenger traffic, first reaching the 2 million mark in the 1970s. In the mid-90s, the number was over 5 million and by 2007, 10.5 million – an increase due in large part to the establishment of low-cost airlines. The airport has consistently expanded during the intervening years to be able to accommodate increased passenger numbers.

In 1983, the airport received a special honour: the Space Shuttle Enterprise (attached to the back of a Boeing 747) visited with an accompanying delegation from NASA, with 300,000 local residents watching the spectacle. Since then, the airport has been one of the world’s 60 NASA Shuttle emergency landing sites.

Cologne Bonn: A Success Story

With a total of 786,000 tonnes of airfreight annually, Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) is the third largest airfreight transhipment centre in Germany. As a major hub for UPS Airlines and FedEx, it is ranked among the top 50 airfreight airports in Europe. As far as the annual number of passengers is concerned, the home base of Germanwings competes on an international scale. Receiving 11.9 million passengers in 2016, Cologne Bonn Airport’s ranking rose to sixth place in Germany. Some 30 airlines bring passengers to 110 destinations. The airport offers an impressive number of amenities:

  • Business lounge
  • Extensive shopping and dining possibilities
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Conference and banquet centre
  • Medical centre and pharmacy
  • Visitors’ terrace with an incomparable view of the runways

The 1,000 acre airport grounds means there is no shortage of space for expansion. CGN Airport has one of the largest reserves for runway capacity in Germany. All aircraft types and weight classes can land on, and take off from, three runways around the clock. Officially named after Konrad Adenauer, CGN is one of the only airports in Germany operating without a night flight ban. This also benefits the passengers of charter flights to Cologne Bonn who arrive at the comfortable General Aviation Terminal (GAT). At Cologne Bonn, flights are possible at any time of the day or night.

The underground train station is located directly under Terminals 1 and 2.

Charter Flights at Cologne Bonn: Travel in First Class Comfort

Travellers by private jet to or from Cologne Bonn enjoy greater privacy and individual customer service at the airport’s new General Aviation Terminal (GAT). The easily accessible Business Aviation Centre Cologne was opened in 2011 at the P5 carpark, replacing the 1985 private and business jet terminal that had been more cumbersome to reach. Because the private aircraft terminal is outside of the security area, once through the clearing gate, passengers are ready to board their private jet.

The BACC’s two storeys offer the highest level of comfort:

  • Spacious VIP rooms
  • A relaxing lounge
  • Conference rooms
  • A gallery

There are also rooms available for customs and the federal police. The General Aviation Terminal is used by approximately 12,500 private jet passengers annually, with the occasional celebrity – or celebrities, in the case of the German national football team – among them.
